Dokra Art

Dokra Art is a dynamic representation of Madhya Pradesh's rich Dhokra artisan legacy. These villages serve as immersive entry points for anyone who are curious to learn more about the complex realm of Dhokra art. Viewers get to see every step of the creative process, from dealing with raw materials to seeing the finished artwork being created. These towns are not just centers of production; they are also vital to the preservation of the ancient techniques and cultural value of Dhokra art.

A labor-intensive and intriguing process, metal casting is a crucial component of Dokra's craft. The desired object or figurine is first modelled in clay by artisans, who then coat it with a coating of beeswax and embellish it with minute details. More clay is applied to the whole structure, forming a mold. The mold is filled with molten metal, usually a mixture of brass and other metals. The outer layer of clay is broken to expose the finished metal sculpture once it has cooled and set.
