Tribal Museum

A great treasury of indigenous art, the Madhya Pradesh Tribal Museum has a special area dedicated to displaying the exquisite beauty of Dhokra items. This museum offers artists a venue to display their works of art in addition to celebrating workmanship. Explore the rich cultural importance and history of Dhokra art to have a better knowledge of the customs that have influenced the craft within the local tribal groups.

The craft of Dokra involves a meticulous process of metal casting, which is both labor-intensive and fascinating. Artisans create a clay model of the desired object or figurine, cover it with a layer of beeswax, and then add intricate details to the wax model. The entire structure is coated with more clay, creating a mold. Molten metal, typically a blend of brass and other alloys, is poured into the mold. Once cooled and solidified, the outer clay layer is broken to reveal the final metal piece.
